This means fixing what's broken.
In a rebuild, a carburetor is disassembled into its major components, cleaned and reassembled using a new carburetor kit which includes gaskets, needle/seat, accelerator pump and other parts required to restore performance. This is as far as most do-it-yourselfers or mechanics go.
When we do a rebuild, we also add refinishing of zinc and aluminum castings, since this is helps prevent corrosion. In Rochester Quadrajet carbs, we install throttle shaft bushings on the primary side. More info on bushings...
Cast iron and steel parts are painted as required for corrosion protection. Other components are repaired or replaced as required.
We can only do rebuilds like this on carbs in fairly good condition. This generally means newer carbs. We wouldn't do a rebuild on a pre-war carb or on certain models, such as most Strombergs, Carter WCFB's and others that require more attention.
Remanufacturing involves returning a carburetor to original function.
The carburetor is completely disassembled - all shafts and other parts are removed. The carburetor is reassembled with new or reconditioned parts throughout. All castings are refinished and all steel parts are replated.
The ready-to-go carburetors that we have for sale (here) are all remanufactured.
Most of what we do is restoration to show-quality. We pay close attention to finishes, correct fasteners and other details. More information on how we restore carbs...
